My studio faces my garden, which I planted and have worked on for more than 15 years. It is a continually changing painting, controlled by my hand as well as the uncontrollable forces of nature and the seasons. I spend time looking up close. These images were born from my observations. My engagement in the creation of these photographs is an extension of my studio practice and feeds into my work in other media. The Translucent Series of photographs focuses on the illusionary qualities of light, glass and liquid. Mundane glass objects piled and overlapping each other with light and color, become abstract forms and patterns. An image is captured when it forms halfway between abstraction and hyper-realism. It was the search and discovery process of taking these photos that led to my GLASS SERIES of paintings.
